From Faery Song

Shed no tear! O shed no tear!

The flowers will bloom another year.

Weep no more! O weep no more!

Young buds sleep in the root’s white core.

 John Keats (1795-1821)

Took these photos on the common just 5 mins up the road from us on the way home from my parents this morning – what a nice white start to the year.

  1. Oh my goodness – we have had glorious sunshine here!
    Lovely pictures and poem.

Happy New Year Helen – I have enjoyed following your blog in 2008, and I look forward to another year of “The Patient Gardener” in 2009.
    Warm regards
    K

  2. What beautiful Pictures. No snow for us in Nottingham so far although it is very cold. Just found your blog over the last week and am enjoying my visits here. Margaret

  3. A very nice white start indeed! Happy New Year!

  4. Nice pictures! Snow shots are very fun to look at. Happy New Year!

  5. How lovely – real winter weather. Your blog snowflakes are settling. Will be quite deep by tomorrow morning :-)
Much better than here which is all grey and depressing.

  6. What a beautiful start to the New Year PG! Happy New Year to you & your family!

  7. Those are beautiful scenes, and I like the poem, saying the flowers are tucked in under the snow, and will yet bloom. I’m ready!

    Happy New Year,
    Sue

  8. Hi everyone – I’m glad you like the photos. Best wishes to you all for 2009 and thanks for supporting me this year.

  9. That is such a stunningly beautiful beginning to the year. Thank you for sharing the photos. May those sleeping young shoots wake up soon to give you an exuberantly beautiful 2009!

  10. Gorgeous photos Helen. How majestic they look when contrasted in white.

  11. Aren’t the trees looking magnificent at the moment? We braved the cold yesterday for a bracing walk too – chilly but worth it!

  12. Now that looks seriously cold – was it a very heavy frost or snow ? The photos and words were the perfect match. A most Happy New Year to you !

  13. Hi Anna – it was a very heavy frost with a sprinkling of snow. The temperature was -2 degrees at least if not colder. The sun is shining today and all the majority of the frost has gone.

  14. Happy New Year! I do believe you have more snow on the ground than I do (except for the greatly diminished piles along the driveway). I was a little freaked out at the falling snow on your blog when it first started. Very fun.

  15. Happy new year ! I love these trees!!ohhhh feel homesick..Trees are going to big with me this coming year and thanks for all your comment this last year.!.and the secret is never to put the paints away..

  16. Oh, so simply gorgeous, and the shots are yours too! Well shot, they are really great ones. I always loved the dramatic look of the trees clothed in snow this way – it shows of thier structure so beautifully…Thanks for sharing them!
