Jacob’s ladder – I dont think so! (Mystery plant)

Well I have a mystery on my hands. This plant is supposed to be Polemonium caeruleum – Jacob’s ladder. It definately isnt Jacobs ladder or anyone elses for that matter.

I got the seed from either the CGS or HPS seed distribution. As is normal with these things as the seeds are donated there is no guarantee they will germinate or that they are what they say they are. This year I have had about a 75% germination rate and so far I think this is the only one which isnt what I was expecting.
I have about 8 of them in pots waiting to be planted our or potted out for next year’s plant sale. The foilage is abit lax and I suspect that this is partly due to them being in pots on my patio.
If anyone has any ideas what this plant is I would love to hear from you.

Huh! How delightful to plant a seed and see what springs from it! Every garden is a mystery! I’m not sure what this plant is either. At first glance when I saw the white bloom without reading your post, I thought it was Morning Glory, but now I see it isn’t. Can’t wait to see what you find out!
I’m not completely sure Helen but it may be silene alba. It’s most pretty and should go well at the plant sale. If you would like some Jacob’s Ladder seeds just let me know and I will save some for you
I’m with Anna, it’s some kind of campion (silene).
i post at http://www.flickr.com/groups/whatplantisthat/ if i have mystery plants. hope you fine the name of yours!
Thanks Anna and Martyn – I’m not 100% convinced that its a Silene but will have a look in the books and see how the photos compare.
Could it be Silene maritima – I remember seeing something very similar while walking along the coast last year. The foliage looked similar too.
How dissapointing that it is not what you had hoped for but fun anyway. I have collected seed and not labelled thinking I would remember and then found they were not what I had thought I’d planted.
Well I think you are right and they are Silene which is amusing as the seeds that were labelled Silene didnt germinate
