Back garden – end of March 2008

(Update 3rd March – I have been asked for a bigger photo so here it is – you will see that much of the ‘colour’ is from the daises in the lawn!!)

from Flora, Ceres and Pomona

Into your garden you can walk

And with each plant and flower talk;

View all their glories, from each one

Raise some rare meditation.

Recount their natures, tell which are

Vertuous like you, as well as fair

JOHN REA (d 1681)

I am really looking forward to this month as the garden starts to come alive with blossom, daffodils, tulips and swelling buds.

Lovely! Will you be showing us the same view at the end of this month?

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  2. Phillip (UK) says:

Its been a long winter and it is so exciting hearing the birds sing again and the Daffodils getting ready to bloom.

A lovely choice for GBMD Helen. I have not come across John Rea before. I must find out more about him. Your late March garden looks most colourful. What is the shrub in the foreground ? I do like your new banner – it sings of spring.

Your garden looks beautiful. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but I suppose one of the consolations of this time of year is that you have time to pay attention to each thing as it blooms.

I love the enthusiasm we are wrapped up in for beginning the first of March : ) .. Yes ! do keep taking a picture each month of the same spot ? I am going to do the same thing and see how it progresses .. pretty poem to go with a pretty picture of your garden : )

Wow your garden really comes alive at the end of March, can’t wait to see the same view this year. 🙂

  7. It really does feel like we’ve turned a corner. That’s a lovely poem you’ve chosen. It really reflects the mood of the season.

VP/Joy – I hadnt thought of taking a photo at the end of this month as well or even on a monthly basis but I think that might be a good idea.

Anna – the shrub in the foreground is a prostrate rosemary. Its planted on top of a wall just out of the shot and trails down it to the patio below

Very nice poem. I do sometimes talk to my plants! I can’t believe that’s how your garden will look this month. Beautiful!

  10. Ann says:

Love your poem to celebrate the day. And how lucky, lucky, lucky you are to have that kind of color in your gardens at the end of March. More reason to celebrate the month of March. We won’t be celebrating anything like that kind of color until the end of May at the very earliest. Happy GBMD to you!

I would love to be able to see your picture just a little bit bigger (says EB, greedily!)

  12. Me too, I want Spring to start so badly. Pretty color today!
