A New Look

Sadly the Mahonia is over now but it was wonderful
Sadly the Mahonia is over now but it was wonderful

I have been playing around a bit with the appearance of the blog.  Changing the theme to Twenty Ten which will give me lots more functionality and also finally sorting out the menu with pages and posts stored on appropriate pages. It was amazingly easy once I had finally understood the instructions but I took my usual approach to IT and kept trying different things until it worked.

This theme allows me to categorise posts as standard, gallery or asides.  This post is going to be categorised as an aside which is really why I am writing it to see what it looks like!

Do let me know what you think of the new look

Thanks Donna – amazing what happens when you are bored over your lunchtime sandwich!

Looks very good. I have fun changing mine up every once in awhile.

  4. It’s very pleasant to look at, and I think the font and the colours make it very easy to read. (Also, it fits perfectly on my small laptop screen!)

  5. Nice and easy to read. It’s a good look.

Looks good. I’ve been thinking about a WordPress blog, especially now that I see Google is becoming evil, linking every bit of information about me to every other bit they can get their cyber hands on. But it’s hard to chuck all those years of posts, and split one’s personality, so to speak.

      Hi James
I do believe you can migrate posts across form google to wordpress. Think it is a long process and not without annoyance but might be worth looking into – like WordPress do it for you

I do like Twenty Ten – it’s the theme used by the company blog I’m looking after. I’m currently looking at Twenty Eleven for their next change, which I think is a tweaked version of this one.

It’s very easy on the eye Helen. Standard, gallery and asides makes me think of ships rather than a blog 🙂 Occasionally think that I will migrate and I do have a long neglected WordPress blog out there somewhere. Have a feeling though that it might take some time to carry out what would be involved – maybe on the to do list for next winter.

Helen, I really like the new look. I know many bloggers like dark backgrounds to make their photos pop, but I find the light backgrounds more pleasing and easier on the eyes. I love that carpet of bluebells in the header photo, too.

Looks very good and most timely because I’ve been investigating WP this weekend (getting thoroughly fed up with the high-handed and arbitrary way that Google/Blogger are messing things up at present)

PS to James’ comment. There is definitely a WordPress option to import a Blogger blog, haven’t tried it yet . . .

I like the look, clean as others have said. I’m so bad at changing or putting new things on the blog, the lack of links to blogs I follow testifies to this! As an aside I’ve been having problems with the email version of your blog; the photos don’t download and today just hovering the mouse over it made the text disappear. It’s not a problem as I always come to look at the website but thought you’d like to know. It hasn’t happened with other blogs I follow. Christina
