Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is ‘Express Yourself’ – which is a very wide open topic.

I think I express myself best in writing, hence the blog, but that doesn’t really work for a photograph challenge.  I hate having my photograph taken, loath it in fact, you won’t find many photographs of me.  My mother despairs and frequently complains that she doesn’t have any up to date photographs of me and my sons.  She also complains when she sees our holiday photos that there aren’t many of us, they are mainly of views etc.  Last year the three of us were in Lake Maggiore and I decided that before we came home we had to do a group selfie, just to humour Mum.  Finally, on the last day, when we visited a garden I had been waiting all week to visit, I managed to persuade the boys to go along with me.  I, and my mother thankfully, love the result as it is such a good representation of my small family.  My youngest the extrovert in the middle deciding that he might as well go for it big time, my eldest slightly more restrained but playing along and me, taking a big breath and really gurning into the screen.  I also like the fact that it demonstrates how tall my lads are with the eldest a good foot taller than me.

So here we are expressing ourselves!

  1. It was lovely to see a photo of you. A fun photo too. Somehow it makes it more interesting if you can visualise the writer. And I loathe the idea of putting my photograph out there too so know how you feel.

      Hi Christine
Having gone through the WPC posts already up I have preferred the ones which show the bloggers expressing themselves literally

  2. Ann says:

What a lovely picture you must be so proud of your boys

  3. It doesn’t get much better for a Mom than to be able to express herself with her two handsome sons. Perfect!

  4. Julieanne says:

That’s a great photo, good fun, and hopefully your mum is pleased.

And admittedly, nice to see you in a pic, even if not in your garden.

Oh this is GOOD! I’m afraid I prefer being the one behind the camera 🙂

Very sweet — your mom must be happy with this current photo now. Great expressions!

What a great photo! Like you, I despise most photos of myself. My blogger buddy Peter takes pretty good pictures of me, but all the others are just — Yech!

Good on you, a photo perfect for the theme and a great one for the family to have too.

  9. Excellent photo. Lots of character.

  10. A wonderful present for your mother, a great shot, full of humour and warm smiles.

What a surprise, (I too don’t like my picture taken) I look forward to each and every post.

Good for you, Helen! I do hate having my picture taken, and selfies are the hardest… Looks like you had some wonderful team support 😀

  13. Considering how many people hate having their photograph taken it is astonishing just how ubiquitous photos have become!

  14. That is really a great photo, Helen. Your middle son must be one jolly fellow and a lot of fun to be around.

  15. Catherine says:

That’s lovely! I think photos like this are so much more evocative than boring, posed, studio photos. And I think I will enjoy your blog all the more for being able to visualise you in your garden, though I am not sure why that should be the case.
